In addition to the obvious cost savings offered by The Cloud, LawCloud also provides you with the opportunity to reduce your firm's carbon footprint and do your bit for the planet.
Green legal software. Beyond the commonly cited benefits of The Cloud such as cost savings and increased agility, cloud computing has the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of many business applications. LawCloud users are already doing their part to help the environment and reduce their carbon footprint by utilising the latest energy saving technologies and concepts that the LawCloud platform enables.
Cloud is greener because it combines equipment and takes advantage of these economies of scale.
Before the advent of Cloud technology, for every 100 firms running their own on-premise solution, there would be 100 or more busy servers operating to drive the backbone of the system inside each office. Most small sized LawCloud sites now don’t need their own server. Their applications are hosted by LawCloud in a data centre, saving the cost of having to keep their own individual and potentially underutilised and power hungry server live 24 x 7.
For every 100 firms, LawCloud now provisions only 10 servers on its secure network. According to these statistics, there’s around a 90% energy efficiency saving when the system is at its optimum, which is a vital green statistic.
In fact, LawCloud doesn’t even provision 10 actual servers at our data centre, it uses the latest virtual server technology, effectively splitting up a single physical box into multiple running servers.
Virtualization is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of a server operating system. This allows a piece of hardware to run multiple instances of the operating system at the same time. The technology was introduced on mainframes decades ago, allowing administrators to avoid wasting expensive processing power and effectively sharing that processing power between multiple tenants.
Each virtual server is device independent. That means LawCloud can have all of its virtual servers and more running on a single efficient physical server box. And if required move the server between multiple physical boxes to ensure optimum efficiency and maximum availability. This provides the essential disaster recovery and failover capabilities required in order for us to comply with our high uptime target of 99.99% in line with our service level agreement.
There are many green benefits of cloud and clearly organisations are benefiting from shrinking down the physical size of their on-premise solutions and moving them to Cloud.
The traditional way of buying computing power is to purchase enough capacity for your highest load which means that firms run more powerful equipment than they need to cover resource peaks and to future proof against capacity, growth and outdating of equipment.
Cloud enables a more efficient utilisation of resource ensuring that the load is balanced and resources run at optimum levels. Virtual servers can be moved between boxes as higher resource demands dictate ensuring the most economical usage. Cloud also reduces the wastage of the traditional 5 year server replacement cycle as parts go out of warranty. Less servers need to be disposed of (or hopefully “recycled”) offering huge wastage savings.
As technology improves and more power saving technologies are developed, the Cloud will become greener and, by combining current economies of scale, virtualisation technologies and also with improved date centre cooling environments, the cloud can only continue to get more efficient.

As the first commercial user of LawWare back in 1998, we have had no hesitation in remaining with the product through its development. We thoroughly recommend it to any firm looking for a practice management system.
The helpdesk is exceptionally good. Whatever the query there is always a human being there to help. No leaving messages or being advised to go to a website. The best computer service for solicitors I have ever used!
The linking of documents and casefiles saves so much time! I have experience of several accounts packages and I like that LawWare is simple to use and easy to learn. Support is quick and effective and staff are helpful and courteous.
I have worked with a number of Case Management providers over the years but have not come across anything with the attention to detail and thoroughness of LawWare. My colleagues and I have not been disappointed.
I can’t imagine trying to be a law firm in the 21st Century without 21st Century IT systems. Having a ‘single system’ that underpins all the work, whether we are in the office or out, is an integral part of what we are building.
The level of support is the main benefit using this system. The system itself once you have had training is simple and easy to use. We have a great relationship with LawWare and the ongoing support is second to none.
Significant preparation was required to configure and import the data from our old firm. We had to get all clients onto the new system and then learn how to use it. We just find it very easy to use, much easier than our old system.
It’s a big help that you can speak to the boss directly. The support team takes a lot of the technological stress away and, as LawWare continues to build relationships and integrations with other suppliers, it makes our life much easier.
Being a busy litigator with a growing firm it is incredibly useful to be able to view my files from any location with some form of internet connection. I am a fan, and want to keep working with LawWare to make a good product great.
The switch to the new LawCloud system, which is still on-going, has gone very well. We found the LawWare team without exception to be very helpful and knowledgeable. All queries are followed up and dealt with promptly.
