Law firm homeworking: free resources to make life easier

Law firm homeworkingLaw firm homeworking is nothing new. However, the outbreak of Covid-19 forced many firms to accelerate their move towards it.

We’ve already taken a look at what government assistance is available. State aid is one thing, but what is the wider world of business offering?

Here are just a few aids and free offers that are open to you.

Crafty Counsel.

Crafty Counsel , the online learning and development platform for lawyers, is making all its content free for two weeks. Check out the offer by following the link.

The Link App.

The Link App is innovative and easy-to-use. It provides a secure and confidential communication tool – now for free. It works on all devices: home computers, laptops, ipads, iphones and androids. Users can message clients, share documents, and enable clients to access case updates. Visit the Link App website here.

Google Hangouts Meet.

Google’s general manager and VP of G-Suite Javier Soltero said at the start of March that Google will begin rolling out free access to its advanced Hangouts Meet video-conferencing capabilities to all G Suite and G Suite for Education customers globally.

Google Hangouts Meet is a cloud-based collaboration tool that is part of its business productivity bundle, G-Suite. Hangouts Meet is Google’s latest video conferencing app while Hangouts Chat is Google’s Slack alternative, allowing G Suite organizations to create group chats and channels for internal discussions.

The new free access will include:

  • Larger meetings, for up to 250 participants per call.
  • Live streaming for up to 100,000 viewers within a domain.
  • The ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive.

Perhaps not applicable for all law firm homeworking but well worth checking out.

Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft said at the start of March that if you work for a business that isn’t currently licensed for Teams, you can get a free Office 365 E1 offer for six months.

Teams is part of Office 365, so if you have a licence for that you already have it. It’s worth noting for small businesses that Microsoft already has a good freemium version and you can find details here.

Cisco Webex.

According to Cisco, there is an unprecedented increase in remote work happening around the world due to COVID-19. If you are working remotely, Webex can help to keep your team connected on any device, enabling you to keep work moving from anywhere.

To support its customers to get the job done and continue their activity, Cisco is offering free and enhanced services to support working from home and learning across the globe, whatever the size or industry they are active in.

LawWare will try to update this blog post as other helpful offers become available.

Another great customer service experience from LawWare. My laptop had to be stripped back to factory settings as part of a repair - taking hours! In contrast, restoring LawWare took one phone call to the support team and I was up and running in 6 minutes. If only everything was so easy!

The helpdesk is exceptionally good. Whatever the query there is always a human being there to help. No leaving messages or being advised to go to a website. The best computer service for solicitors I have ever used!

I have worked with a number of Case Management providers over the years but have not come across anything with the attention to detail and thoroughness of LawWare. My colleagues and I have not been disappointed.

I can’t imagine trying to be a law firm in the 21st Century without 21st Century IT systems. Having a ‘single system’ that underpins all the work, whether we are in the office or out, is an integral part of what we are building.

The level of support is the main benefit using this system.  The system itself once you have had training is simple and easy to use. We have a great relationship with LawWare and the ongoing support is second to none.

Significant preparation was required to configure and import the data from our old firm. We had to get all clients onto the new system and then learn how to use it. We just find it very easy to use, much easier than our old system.

Being a busy litigator with a growing firm it is incredibly useful to be able to view my files from any location with some form of internet connection. I am a fan, and want to keep working with LawWare to make a good product great.

The switch to the new LawCloud system, which is still on-going, has gone very well. We found the LawWare team without exception to be very helpful and knowledgeable. All queries are followed up and dealt with promptly.
