LawCloud is green legal software. Virtualisation Technology.

In fact, LawCloud doesn’t even provision 10 actual servers at our data centre. It uses the latest virtual server technology, effectively splitting up a single physical box into multiple running servers.

Virtualization is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of a server operating system. This allows a piece of hardware to run multiple instances of the operating system at the same time. The technology developed on mainframes decades ago. It allows administrators to avoid wasting expensive processing power and effectively share that processing power between multiple tenants.

Each virtual server is device independent. Consequently, that means LawCloud can have all of its virtual servers and more running on a single efficient physical server box. And if required move the server between multiple physical boxes allowing optimum efficiency and maximum availability. Accordingly, this provides the essential disaster recovery and failover capabilities. These are required for us to comply with our high uptime target of 99.99% in line with our service level agreement.

Resource utilisation.

There are many green benefits of cloud and clearly organisations are benefiting from shrinking down the physical size of their on-premise solutions and moving them to Cloud.

The traditional way of buying computing power is to purchase enough capacity for your highest load. This means that firms run more powerful equipment than they need to cover resource peaks and to future-proof against capacity, growth and outdating of equipment.

Cloud provides a more efficient use of resource and ensures that the load is balanced and resources run at optimum levels.
