The Radisson Blu on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile played host to this year’s LawWare Conference and User Group Meeting. Over 150 guests from law firms spanning the length and breadth of the UK attended. They represented a broad cross-section of LawWare clients.
Presented and chaired by LawWare’s founder and Managing Director, Warren Wander, the day long event comprised a series of informative and entertaining sessions. His main theme for the day was helping your law firm to be a Stronger Business by better utilising LawWare.
After an introduction to LawWare for those delegates new to the event, Warren gave a run-down of some of the new features that would be available in forthcoming editions of the software.
These included a revised and more readily accessible interface, improvements to the Lawware mobile app and the forthcoming introduction of a new client portal.
He also informed everyone about a new appointment to the LawWare team. The role of Client Relationship Manager is being created to cement relationships with clients. The new postholder will consult with, assist, advise and organise supplementary training for our clients.
Lastly, Warren introduced LawWare’s new online learning centre; a comprehensive set of learning / training documentation and video demonstrations. The centre is available to all LawWare clients online.
This session proved to be an eye-opener for many of those present. Warren likened LawWare to a Swiss Army knife and demonstrated several different, less well-known aspects of the LawWare software. The main areas covered included:
Following the comprehensive software demonstration, Warren handed over to his two guest speakers, James Ness and Alan Greig.
James, Deputy Registrar with the Law Society of Scotland presented delegates with an in-depth analysis of the implications of the dreaded GDPR for law firms. He also gave details about how the Law Society itself was gearing up for GDPR implementation.
Next to speak was Alan Greig, Director of Net-Defence, a bespoke security solutions organisation. Alan gave a keen insight into the pitfalls of poor security and provided a series of highly amusing anecdotes to illustrate his points.
The meeting then broke for a delicious lunch which was much enjoyed by all. Tickets for a prize draw to raise funds to support the homeless of Edinburgh were sold.
The afternoon saw a change of format and a move to round table group collaboration. A structured 45 minute session commenced in which groups of 8 to 10 people worked together to produce a series of new ideas.
The main theme was, once again: helping your law firm to be a Stronger business. However, this time, the emphasis was upon what new ideas or mechanisms could be added to LawWare to improve productivity, efficiency and profitability. Three key questions were asked:
If the morning session had been an eye-opener for delegates, this session was the equivalent for the LawWare team!
The delegates produced a whole host of new, innovative and well thought out ideas. All of these will be taken on board by our Development Team and many will be appearing in a piece of software near you in the not too distant future.
Users came together as a group to ask individual and group questions about LawWare software and services. Warren and the team fielded these enthusiastically and the meeting ended with the raffle draw and a glass of nice bubbly to round things off.
When asked how he thought the day had gone, Warren stated:
“The event was a great opportunity for us to cement relationships with our many clients and for them to have the opportunity to have their say about our software and services.”

The linking of documents and casefiles saves so much time! I have experience of several accounts packages and I like that LawWare is simple to use and easy to learn. Support is quick and effective and staff are helpful and courteous.

I can’t imagine trying to be a law firm in the 21st Century without 21st Century IT systems. Having a ‘single system’ that underpins all the work, whether we are in the office or out, is an integral part of what we are building.
The level of support is the main benefit using this system. The system itself once you have had training is simple and easy to use. We have a great relationship with LawWare and the ongoing support is second to none.
Significant preparation was required to configure and import the data from our old firm. We had to get all clients onto the new system and then learn how to use it. We just find it very easy to use, much easier than our old system.
